Huawei Ascend D1 Spotted at FCC with Dual- Core CPU and (HSPA+) - MobilEgypt

Unveiled a few days ahead of Mobile World Congress 2012 trade fair, Huawei Ascend D1 has yet to make its entrance on the market. While most handset manufacturers already launched their device announced back in February, Huawei is still struggling to debut its Diamond family of smartphones. According to the latest hearsay, the Chinese company plans to release all three Diamond smartphones this summer, though we don’t have any official launch dates yet. However, at least one of them will soon hit shelves in the United States, the Huawei Ascend D1. The guys over at Engadget have just spotted the handset at FCC (Federal Communication Commission) with pentaband HSPA+. Unfortunately, we’re not sure which carrier will offer the Ascend D1 , but the filed documents indicate that the unlocked models will work on T- Mobile and AT&T’s airwaves. Even though we don’t have a release date for the Ascend D1, Huawei mentioned a few weeks ago that it would launch the smartphone in Q2, so we can safely assume the device will hit shelves by the end of June.
Huawei Ascend D1 will be shipped with the latest version of Ice Cream Sandwich operating system on board and will be packed with a dual-core 1.5 GHz TI OMAP 4460 processor. In addition, the device sports an impressive 4.5-inch IPS+ LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720 x 1280 pixels) resolution and 16 million colors. On the back, Ascend D1 boasts an 8- megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, dual-LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, while in the front there’s a 1.3-megapixel secondary camera for video calls. Aside from HSPA+ support, the smartphone offers users Wi-Fi and DLNA, as well as Bluetooth 3.0 and microUSB 2.0 (MHL). It also come packed with Dolby Mobile 3.0 Plus sound enhancement and active noise cancellation with dedicated mic.

T-Mobile to cut 900 jobs in latest restructuring (scoop) - MobilEgypt

T-Mobile USA will restructure its business and hold another round of layoffs as it seeks to reduce its operating costs. The changes were announced in a memo from CEO Philipp Humm leaked to the Verge. It's unclear just how many jobs would be shed in the latest cut. It comes on top of 1,000 jobs the carrier said in March it would shed as part of its ongoing restructuring plan. In the note, Humm said the company would contact employees personally about the cuts and changes in responsibilities. The changes are expected to make the carrier a leaner business just as it makes a pricey bet on improving its current network this year and moving to 4G LTE next year. The carrier, which lags behind its larger rivals, has been aggressively repositioning itself as the aggressive upstart after nearly a year in limbo waiting for the AT&T takeover. With the AT&T deal squashed, the carrier and parent Deutsche Telekom has attempted to make a go of it independently. It's unclear how the restructuring would look. Humm said the new structure would reduce the layers of management and allow for more nimble movement by the carrier. As with the March announcement, the cuts wouldn't affect customer service representatives, engineering technicians, or front-line employees at T- Mobile stores.

Kyocera's Smart Sonic Receiver arrives in Japan today - MobilEgypt

At this year's CTIA in New Orleans, which just wrapped up last week, Kyocera debuted its Tissue-Conduction Audio Technology for mobile devices. Today, the company announced that two new handsets featuring this technology will debut in Japan starting today: the Kyocera Urbano Progresso and the Kyocera K012 Simple Mobile Phone. The former is an Android 4.0 handset that comes in three colors, has a 4-inch OLED touch screen, and an 8.1-megapixel camera. The K012, however, is designed for seniors or those who want a simple feature device. It is a standard flip-phone that has four color variations, and is equipped with a 5-megapixel camera and a 3-inch display. Meant to amp up sound quality, the audio booster relies on a ceramic transducer that transmits sound waves through the tissue in your ear. As you can see from the image above, handsets that feature this technology do not require a front output speaker, leaving devices with a cleaner look. In Japan, Kyocera will call the audio-booster the "Smart Sonic Receiver," but it remains unknown how it'll be branded here in the States. What is known, however, is that U.S. consumers will still have to wait to try out Kyocera's technology -- it's slated to be be released here within the next six to 12 months.
