LG Optimus 4X HD shows up at CTIA - MobilEgypt

NEW ORLEANS--Today, I caught a glimpse of CTIA 2012 one day earlier than most and roamed around the show floor before its set to kick off tomorrow on May 8. Amidst all the construction and chaos, as companies in the mobile phone industry scurry to finish building their booths, I came across LG's splice of convention real estate. Among its TVs and other electronics, display kiosks for LG's Optimus 4X HD , Optimus Vu, and 3D Max were also set up. These three devices were already unveiled in late February's MWC, but none of them had carrier's attached to them. However, perhaps the manufacturer will use this trade show as a way to announce prospective carriers to their recent devices.

HTC One V Confirmed to Arrive in the US “This Summer” - MobilEgypt

The cheapest HTC One device, the One V has just been confirmed to land in the US sometime this summer. Although the Taiwanese handset maker did not reveal which carriers would offer the smartphone, it did mention HTC One V as being expected to be available “through a variety of U.S. partners.” This means that we should expect the HTC One V to be carried by multiple operators in the country, including MetroPCS, U.S. Cellular and Virgin Mobile. Two months ago an HTC spokesperson revealed that the One V would be released through these three carriers mentioned above, though other operators might offer the device. Furthermore, HTC One V will be showcased for the first time in the States at the International CTIA Wireless 2012, which is set to kick off tomorrow, May 8. No word on the pricing options yet, but this is the cheapest HTC One family device, so we should expect the One V to go on sale for under $300 USD (230 EUR) outright. HTC One V will be shipped with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system with HTC Sense 4 on board. In addition, the smartphone comes packed with HTC’s ImageSense camera technology. With HTC ImageSense , the smartphone is able to offer users an improved camera experience that delivers fast image capture, along with better image quality under adverse conditions. Hardware-wise, the One V is equipped with a 1 GHz single-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 processor and packs 4GB of internal memory, 512MB of RAM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB). Furthermore, HTC One V users will get 25GB of free cloud storage via Dropbox for two years. Beats Audio is also integrated within HTC One V for an authentic sound. Last but not least, the phone is powered by a 1500 mAh Li-Ion battery, which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer.

BlackBerry 10 OS Files Reveal Upcoming Devices: Nevada, Winchester, London and More - MobilEgypt

RIM’s BlackBerry World 2012 has just closed its gates and developers who attended are still getting acquainted with their newly received BlackBerry 10 prototype devices. For those who don’t know yet, RIM promised that each developer attending this year’s BlackBerry World event will receive a prototype device that will run a modified version of PlayBook OS. Although this is not the final product, the Blackberry 10 Dev Alpha device is a useful tool for developers who wish to start creating apps for the latest operating system announced by RIM last week. Even though RIM officially introduced the BlackBerry 10 SDK, the company mentioned that the first BlackBerry 10 devices won’t hit shelves until October 2012. However, until RIM gets it together and announces the names and specs sheet its next Blackberry 10 devices, here are some interesting details on the Canadian company’s roadmap. It appears that the folks at OSBB discovered the names of some of RIM’s BlackBerry 10 upcoming devices. According to them, these names are hidden in the Dev Alpha’s viewable file system. The following names have been found within BlackBerry 10 OS files: Nevada, Winchester2 LTE, Winchester2 HSPA, Winchester2 LTE HSPA, Colt, London, Blackforest, Nashville, and Naples. Developers who received the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha can verify the information on their device by typing file:///radio/etc/sv.numbers in the browser. We already heard about BlackBerry Colt and London, but we don’t know anything about the rest of the devices mentioned on this list. Rumor has it that Winchester is in fact the Blackberry PlayBook 3G and 4G, while the Blackforest might be the 10- inch PlayBook. This is the first time we hear about Naples and Nashville, which will probably be the first Blackberry 10 devices that are expected to be officially released in Q4 2012. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.

Nokia fixes purple screen bug in Nokia Lumia 900 - MobilEgypt

Nokia seems to have solved the mystery of the purple hue. The company's NokiaCare account tweeted the news yesterday, saying that it has identified the issue and promising a fix bundled into the next overall software update. Plaguing some owners of the Nokia 900 Lumia, the bug displays a purple tint on the screen when the brightness is set low. Several posts at the XDA Developers Forum discussed the issue and displayed the actual problem , showing the difference in tint between a good model and a bad model. Nokia acknowledged the glitch last month via its Facebook account and a U.K. discussion forum. Customers in Europe were advised to bring the phone to the nearest Nokia Care center where support staff could examine it. The company was mum about a launch date for the fix but said it would tweet its followers when the software update is available. The Lumia 900 has seen strong demand in certain regions, such as the U.S. But the phone has been afflicted by a few problems. An initial bug prevented users from establishing a data connection. Nokia responded by offering a $100 credit for both new and existing customers, covering the cost of a new Lumia 900. A few other minor glitches have been found in the phone, according to WPCentral, which thinks Nokia will fix through the next software update.

Verizon announces HTC Incredible with 4G LTE and Ice Cream Sandwich - MobilEgypt

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- HTC announced on Monday a 4G LTE updated Droid Incredible for Verizon Wireless, which looks very similar to the HTC One S offered on T-Mobile USA. The new Droid Incredible 4G LTE for Verizon is a variation of the HTC One S that HTC is already selling on T-Mobile USA. But there is one big notable difference. This HTC device supports 4G LTE on Verizon's extensive 4G LTE network. The device also comes with an advanced camera that offers 8 megapixels and can take up to three shots per second. It also has Beats Audio integration for improved sound quality. It runs Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as well as HTC's own Sense 4 software. It has a 4-inch Super LCD qHD screen and a dual-core Snapdragon S4. It also has1,7000mAh battery, an expansion memory slot for up to 32 GB with a microSD. Pricing hasn't been announced yet for the new Droid Incredible 4G LTE, nor is there an exact launch date. The press release says it will be available in the "coming weeks." Some rumors suggested the price would be $299 for the phone. But that sounds a bit high considering the T-Mobile One S, which is very similar to this device, is priced at $199 with a two year contract. The new smartphone is a nice improvement over earlier versions of the HTC Incredible for Verizon, namely it has the 4G LTE support and the delicious Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and HTC Sense 4 software. We'll keep you updated on any more details we get on this device. So stay tuned.

Android reclaims 61 percent of all U.S. smartphone sales - MobilEgypt

Android has staged a healthy lead over Apple's iOS as the smartphone wars continue. Looking at the first quarter of the year, NPD Group pegged Android's U.S. market share at 61 percent, a jump over the 49 percent recorded in last year's fourth quarter. On the flip side, iOS lost ground with a 29 percent market share, down from 41 percent during 2011's final quarter. Apple's holiday surge in customers came courtesy of heavy demand for the iPhone 4S, which debuted last October. After the new year kicked in, Android won back the lost ground to recapture the same market share it held during the third quarter. But no tears need be shed for Apple. Though the company lost share last quarter, the baseline is now higher as a result of added iPhone distribution through Sprint, NPD said. Collectively, Apple and Android now hold 90 percent of all smartphone sales in the U.S. Smartphones overall failed to gain further traction as a percentage of all mobile phone sales. But they still grabbed 66 percent of all handset sales (post-paid and pre-paid) last quarter, according to NPD. All ten of the top- selling models in the first quarter were smartphones, half of them from Apple, three of them from Samsung, and one each from Motorola and HTC. The smartphone market also has plenty of room left to expand. Almost half of all smartphone buyers last quarter moved up from a feature phone. Who's buying all those smartphones? More than two out of three people ages 25 to 34 own a smartphone, according to the latest research from Nielsen . Men and women are split almost evenly, with 50.9 percent of female mobile users carrying a smartphone and 50.1 percent of men. Asian Americans led the way in smartphone ownership with 67.3 percent using one as their main mobile handset. Almost three in five Hispanic mobile users now have smartphones, while a majority of African-Americans own one, Nielsen added. Android also remains the top dog in the U.S., according to Nielsen, though the research firm gave it a 48 percent market share for last quarter, followed by Apple's iOS with 32 percent. But Apple continues to reign as the top smartphone maker.
