Dubbed the next LG "superphone," the rumored LG LS970 is boasting the kind of specs that will whet anyone's appetite. According to BriefMobile, the LS970, or "Eclipse" as its working title is known to be, may be available on Sprint's yet-to-exist 4G LTE nework. Other speculations include that the device will be released in Q4 of this year, and it'll have a 4.67-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1280x768p, a whopping 13-megapixel camera, and a 2,100mAh battery. Perhaps most impressive, however, is the 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Krait processor it's rumored to be equipped with. This Qualcomm CPU will also be paired up with the equally exciting Adreno 320 GPU, so expect blazing fast internal speeds and great graphic rendering. Two other rumors speculate that the LS970 will have NFC-capabilities , and it'll run on Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS--which just puts the most appropriate cherry on top of this delicious device.

It's only been a few days since we first heard the rumors about an upcoming, Sprint-bound LG quad- core slab, and now that same LS970 "superphone" is back for more action. Thanks to yet another snap acquired by the folks over at BriefMobile, we can now spot a couple extra details on the device, including its previously unknown NFC capabilities. Contrary to earlier beliefs, the alleged LG Eclipse also seems to offer a removable battery, which is likely to make some power users very content. Kyocera's Smart Sonic Receiver arrives in Japan today - MobilEgypt

At this year's CTIA in New Orleans, which just wrapped up last week, Kyocera debuted its Tissue-Conduction Audio Technology for mobile devices. Today, the company announced that two new handsets featuring this technology will debut in Japan starting today: the Kyocera Urbano Progresso and the Kyocera K012 Simple Mobile Phone. The former is an Android 4.0 handset that comes in three colors, has a 4-inch OLED touch screen, and an 8.1-megapixel camera. The K012, however, is designed for seniors or those who want a simple feature device. It is a standard flip-phone that has four color variations, and is equipped with a 5-megapixel camera and a 3-inch display. Meant to amp up sound quality, the audio booster relies on a ceramic transducer that transmits sound waves through the tissue in your ear. As you can see from the image above, handsets that feature this technology do not require a front output speaker, leaving devices with a cleaner look. In Japan, Kyocera will call the audio-booster the "Smart Sonic Receiver," but it remains unknown how it'll be branded here in the States. What is known, however, is that U.S. consumers will still have to wait to try out Kyocera's technology -- it's slated to be be released here within the next six to 12 months.

Samsung launches the Omnia M Windows Phone to Europe - MobilEgypt

Samsung is launching a new Windows Phone 7-based device to Europe. Dubbed the Omnia M, the Windows Phone 7.5-equipped handset ships with a 4-inch Super AMOLED display and 1GHz processor. The device comes with a minimalist design, boasting rounded edges and a curved back. According to Samsung, the case was designed ergonomically so it "sits comfortably in your hand." The real focus of the Omnia M is its social features, which include access to the company's Family Story, a cloud-based network for family members to share messages, videos, and photos. Samsung has also bundled its ChatON service with the device, allowing users to engage in group chatting and messaging across several platforms, including iOS and Android. It's been a busy week for Samsung's Windows Phone segment. Earlier this week, the company unveiled the Samsung Focus 2, a $50 Windows Phone boasting a 4-inch Super AMOLED display and 4G LTE support. That device is going on sale May 20 on AT&T's network. The Omnia M, on the other hand, will be coming to Europe first. Samsung said today that it plans to roll out the Omnia M to other regions, but didn't say when it'll start doing so.

Cricket shifts full throttle with high-end Android phones, LTE - MobilEgypt

NEW ORLEANS--Cricket subscribers have spoken -- they want more premium phones -- and now the prepaid carrier is ready to deliver. Cricket customers are beginning to care much more about technical specifications like larger screens, faster processors, and better cameras. Significant sales of the Huawei Mercury, which leapt to an over 10 percent adoption rate in the course of two weeks, proves it. With that in mind, Cricket is going full-speed ahead with plans to expand its smartphone road map to include arrange of smartphones, from entry-level to the premium, with many more high-end smartphones on their roster, for a total of 10 new phones by October. In general, the device mix will include more screens 4 inches or larger, with a 1GB processor or better. The goal is to sell entry level phones in the $100 range and high-end devices upwards of $300 without a contract. In addition to launching new phones with top- tier manufacturers, Cricket also plans to release LTE-capable smartphones, and plans to launch at least two before the end of the year. Although Cricket hasn't deployed LTE, it did start a commercial trial in Tucson, AZ at the end of last year. By 2014, the carrier intends to cover two-thirds of its population with 4G LTE, both on its own and with the help of it network or roaming partners, including Sprint. In tandem with ramping up the number of smartphones on offer, Cricket will also scale back their number of feature phones. Last year, there were 9 feature phones and by the end of 2012, they'll have launched only three. As for Windows Phone, Cricket senior vice president of device, Matthew Stoiber, says they've made no commitment yet, but adds, "We're confident in Windows Phone 8 as an operating system that will be very marketing, and we are working with both Microsoft and a couple of OEMs to determine what the best device to go to market is." Stoiber added that offering devices with diverse operating systems is important to Cricket. If you're wondering about the iPhone, Stoiber says, "It sounds like Apple will reach out to prepaid when it fits their strategy." Muve Music a key player A loftier device mix isn't the only element that attracts new subscribers. In 2012 and beyond, every Android device Cricket unveils will support Muve Music, its all-you-can-download music and ringtone rate plan. Muve Music's product roadmap will increase the social features over time: integrating Facebook, and adding "novel" integration features later this year. The carrier also plans to implement what it calls a "lean-back listening experience" to complement its current on-demand downloading. Cricket's senior vice president in charge of Muve Music, Jeff Toig, sees opportunity to curate a mobile social experience through music that's much more involving than what we see today. Cricket has momentum on his side. Muve Music has over 600,000 subscribers, which Toig says makes them the second largest music subscription service in the U.S., behind Rhapsody. Its also in talks with international operators to license the Muve Music platform, opening up an additional revenue stream. There's also great opportunity to expand Muve Music beyond the tunes and develop similar a similar service rental for video, books, and games. They could also take the platform to tablets and cars. Is that in the stars? Maybe, but for now, Cricket is focused on building up music. "One day we hope that music will be voice mail," says Toig. "You wouldn't buy a phone without voicemail."

New Orleans---The steady drum beat of mobile phone news picked up tempo today at CTIA. Matching the rising temperatures in the big easy, hot new handsets were unveiled or were shown to us for the first time. We also laid our hands on interesting mobile security solutions plus a collection of compelling accessories. Read on for some highlights of what the CNET gang uncovered on site. Phones for everyone First Lynn La took a look at the rough and tumble Kyocera Hydro that's water-resistant and built to survive the abuse this cruel world can dish out. Lynn also spent time with the Kycocera Rise that boasts a responsive physical keyboard to let nimble fingers do the talking. Next, Jessica Dolcourt and I were treated to some hands on time with Virgin Mobile's first 4G phone, the HTC Evo V 4G . Really a re- branded HTC Evo 3D that Sprint says will also link to its older WiMax 4G infrastructure. Sprint also talked up a new software security suite, called Guardian that makes rolling out security software to multiple Android handsets on a family plan a breeze. The big treat of the day though was the time Jessica Dolcourt and I spent in the presence of Samsung's upcoming super phone,the Galaxy S III. Not only is this phone more gorgeous to behold up close, its quad-core performance and feature list mark it as the next Android phone to dethrone. At Pepcom, CTIA's evening event, Lynn La also gave the $99 Pal by Clarity a spin. Made specifically for seniors, this no-frills handset offers the comfort of large rubber buttons, loud audio, plus support for hearing aids. I too got in on the action by taking a closer look at the global version of the HTC One V , a compact and elegant phone meant for European and Asian markets. Other interesting accessories include the ClarityHD Micro portable Bluetooth speaker that aims to push the Jawbone Jambox off of its pediestal. LG Optimus 4X HD shows up at CTIA - MobilEgypt

NEW ORLEANS--Today, I caught a glimpse of CTIA 2012 one day earlier than most and roamed around the show floor before its set to kick off tomorrow on May 8. Amidst all the construction and chaos, as companies in the mobile phone industry scurry to finish building their booths, I came across LG's splice of convention real estate. Among its TVs and other electronics, display kiosks for LG's Optimus 4X HD , Optimus Vu, and 3D Max were also set up. These three devices were already unveiled in late February's MWC, but none of them had carrier's attached to them. However, perhaps the manufacturer will use this trade show as a way to announce prospective carriers to their recent devices.

Android reclaims 61 percent of all U.S. smartphone sales - MobilEgypt

Android has staged a healthy lead over Apple's iOS as the smartphone wars continue. Looking at the first quarter of the year, NPD Group pegged Android's U.S. market share at 61 percent, a jump over the 49 percent recorded in last year's fourth quarter. On the flip side, iOS lost ground with a 29 percent market share, down from 41 percent during 2011's final quarter. Apple's holiday surge in customers came courtesy of heavy demand for the iPhone 4S, which debuted last October. After the new year kicked in, Android won back the lost ground to recapture the same market share it held during the third quarter. But no tears need be shed for Apple. Though the company lost share last quarter, the baseline is now higher as a result of added iPhone distribution through Sprint, NPD said. Collectively, Apple and Android now hold 90 percent of all smartphone sales in the U.S. Smartphones overall failed to gain further traction as a percentage of all mobile phone sales. But they still grabbed 66 percent of all handset sales (post-paid and pre-paid) last quarter, according to NPD. All ten of the top- selling models in the first quarter were smartphones, half of them from Apple, three of them from Samsung, and one each from Motorola and HTC. The smartphone market also has plenty of room left to expand. Almost half of all smartphone buyers last quarter moved up from a feature phone. Who's buying all those smartphones? More than two out of three people ages 25 to 34 own a smartphone, according to the latest research from Nielsen . Men and women are split almost evenly, with 50.9 percent of female mobile users carrying a smartphone and 50.1 percent of men. Asian Americans led the way in smartphone ownership with 67.3 percent using one as their main mobile handset. Almost three in five Hispanic mobile users now have smartphones, while a majority of African-Americans own one, Nielsen added. Android also remains the top dog in the U.S., according to Nielsen, though the research firm gave it a 48 percent market share for last quarter, followed by Apple's iOS with 32 percent. But Apple continues to reign as the top smartphone maker.
