TELUS Refreshes “OS Upgrade Schedule,” Promises ICS for Galaxy S II on June 12 - MobilEgypt

Canadian carrier TELUS has updated its software upgrade schedule once again, but this time we have more details on certain devices. For example, the operator says it is going to upgrade the Samsung Galaxy S II X to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on June 12. Although the release date is subject to change, at least we’re certain the update will come next month. Furthermore, the Galaxy Note is also mentioned in TELUS scheduler for software upgrade. According to the carrier, the smartphone will receive its Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update sometime in late June. We suspect that TELUS and Samsung plan to update the Galaxy S II first, soon followed by Galaxy Note. Two Galaxy Tab tablets will also get their Android 4.0 ICS updates in late July, Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Galaxy Tab 10.1, though we don’t have an exact release date for either. Apparently, TELUS and Sony Mobile plan to provide Xperia ray owners the possibility to upgrade their devices to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich beginning late June. In addition, LG Optimus LTE will also get the Ice Cream Sandwich update sometime in mid-July. The official document has also confirmed Android 2.3 Gingerbread is currently available for LG Optimus Black, while Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi has just gotten the highly anticipated Android 4.0 ICS update. In addition, HTC Amaze 4G has been confirmed for an Ice Cream Sandwich update on May 28, so we should expect it to arrive in about a week. Nokia Lumia 800 and LG Optimus 7 Windows Phone devices are expected to receive software updates as well, though the carrier does not unveil any details for the moment. The former will get it in early June, while the latter will receive it on June 6. Last but not least, BlackBerry Bole 9790 is slated for a 7.1 OS update in early June. Stay tuned for more info on the matter.

SaskTel Launches HTC One S “Roughriders Edition” - MobilEgypt

While TELUS, Bell and other Canadian carriers are offering the standard HTC One S smartphone, SaskTel decided to set itself apart and make a nice surprise to its customers at the same time by launching a special edition of the handset. The regional carrier has just announced the upcoming availability of the HTC One S Roughriders Edition. This would the third HTC One device that makes its entrance on the Canadian market, after HTC One X and One V have been released a few weeks ago. SaskTel's HTC One S comes with the same hardware configuration as the standard version, but packs several extras that might make it more appealing. For example, HTC One S Roughrider Edition features a free Rider case for extra protection. In addition, it comes with pre-loaded content including the official Roughriders mobile app, a Rider Widget, free Rider ringtones and wallpaper, as well as a specially wrapped box with a Riderized graphic and the full Rider schedule. Obviously, it is powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system integrated with HTC Sense 4.0 UI. It also packs a dual core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, but no microSD card slot. The same 8-megapixel camera with ImageSense technology is packed on the backside of the handset, while in the front there's a secondary VGA camera for video calls. Unfortunately, SaskTel failed to provide a release date or price tag for the upcoming device, though it did mention it will offer more details soon. “SaskTel is pleased to offer Saskatchewan Roughrider fans with a tailored HTC One S. The HTC One S is a high-end smartphone with an amazing camera, stunning design and authentic Universal Beats Audio Sound that will allow Rider fans to snap a picture of their favourite Rider player while shooting HD video at the same time ,” said Stacey Sandison, SaskTel Chief Marketing Officer.

Samsung GALAXY S III Headed to Mobilicity - MobilEgypt

Samsung has confirmed Mobilicity is among the Canadian carriers that will offer the Galaxy S III this summer. Although the South Korean company has yet to announce the complete schedule for the Galaxy S III launch in Canada, rumor has it that the device might arrive as early as June. Europeans will be able to purchase the Galaxy S III beginning May 30, but the North American variant will be released a bit later and most likely with a different specs sheet. Given the fact that the Exynos 4212 Quad chipset that powers the recently announced Galaxy S III does not feature LTE support, which is mandatory for the US smartphone market, Samsung is forced to replace it with another chipset that offers this feature. According to the latest hearsay, the Galaxy S III will arrive in the US with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 chipset that features LTE technology. However, it appears that at least one Canadian carrier won’t be coming with the said chipset manufactured by Qualcomm. As we reported yesterday, Rogers Galaxy S III will pack LTE support and Samsung’s “new Exynos processor,” a Google ad claims. There’s no telling whether this is a mistake or Samsung is indeed on its own all-in-one solution for the Galaxy S III. While Mobilicity confirmed it would add the Samsung Galaxy S III to its portfolio of Android devices, the carrier did not disclose any details regarding the phone’s availability or pricing. No other information on the model specifications has been announced for the moment, but more details might leak in the following weeks. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter. “Mobilicity is excited to be working with Samsung on the Canadian launch of the Galaxy S III smartphone. It’s a state-of-art device that’s sure to take user performance to smart new heights, made affordable on our unlimited talk, text and data network ,” said Stewart Lyons, president and chief operating officer.
