Finnish
mobile phone
maker Nokia
is ramping up
to offer some
more
appealing
application to its Windows Phone
users, the latest of them being
Nokia City Lens.
Released in a beta version, the mobile
application is meant to provide users
with an augmented reality interface to
find places in cities they do not yet
know.
The app will provide users with info
on restaurants and other places, while
also delivering driving or walking
directions to them, and the like.
It doesn’t matter whether you are in a
new city or in your hometown. The
app will prove as useful when trying to
find a specific location, Nokia notes.
All you’d have to do is to fire up the
software and look at the city through
the phone’s camera. The augmented
reality interface will overlay info on
places on the real world imagery.
As soon as you have decided on
heading to a specific location, simply
tap in on the screen, and walking
directions will immediately pop up.
At the same time, the application will
enable users to make reservations
straight from the phone , and will also
deliver additional details on the locale.
Through Nokia City Lens, all the places
that you are looking for are instantly
accessible, the handset vendor notes.
Some of the main features of the
mobile application include:
Locate your destination, your way
- See what’s nearby the way that
works best for you—whether through
a camera view, list view, or maps view
—including landmarks, restaurants,
hotels, shops and more.
Get the details - Gather the
information about a chosen spot—all
at a glance. Simply tap to call for more
info, read a review, or view detailed
descriptions to learn everything you
need to know before you go.
Share your location - With just one
tap on your phone, you can share
your destination with friends via social
networks, SMS, or email. Quickly
spread the word of where you’ll be
and how to quickly get there.
Save your searches - City Lens saves
your recent searches so you can look
up one of your last favorite spots in
just seconds. It’s a great way to jog
your memory and save time—all in an
instant.
You can learn some more info on the
software in the video embedded

the app for a spin should head over
to the Nokia Beta Labs to find it.
