RIM’s
BlackBerry
World 2012
has just
closed its
gates and
developers
who attended
are still
getting acquainted with their newly
received BlackBerry 10 prototype
devices.
For those who don’t know yet, RIM
promised that each developer
attending this year’s BlackBerry World
event will receive a prototype device
that will run a modified version of
PlayBook OS.
Although this is not the final product,
the Blackberry 10 Dev Alpha device is
a useful tool for developers who wish
to start creating apps for the latest
operating system announced by RIM
last week.
Even though RIM officially introduced
the BlackBerry 10 SDK, the company
mentioned that the first BlackBerry 10
devices won’t hit shelves until October
2012.
However, until RIM gets it together
and announces the names and specs
sheet its next Blackberry 10 devices,
here are some interesting details on
the Canadian company’s roadmap.
It appears that the folks at OSBB
discovered the names of some of
RIM’s BlackBerry 10 upcoming devices.
According to them, these names are
hidden in the Dev Alpha’s viewable file
system.
The following names have been
found within BlackBerry 10 OS files:
Nevada, Winchester2 LTE, Winchester2
HSPA, Winchester2 LTE HSPA, Colt,
London, Blackforest, Nashville, and
Naples.
Developers who received the
BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha can verify
the information on their device by
typing file:///radio/etc/sv.numbers in
the browser.
We already heard about BlackBerry
Colt and London, but we don’t know
anything about the rest of the devices
mentioned on this list.
Rumor has it that Winchester is in fact
the Blackberry PlayBook 3G and 4G,
while the Blackforest might be the 10-
inch PlayBook.
This is the first time we hear about
Naples and Nashville, which will
probably be the first Blackberry 10
devices that are expected to be
officially released in Q4 2012. Stay
tuned for more updates on the
matter.
