Motorola DEFY MINI Arrives in South Africa at Vodacom - MobilEgypt

The affordable Motorola DEFY MINI has just landed on South African shores and is now available for purchase through major carrier Vodacom. For the time being, customers in South Africa can grab the DEFY MINI for 245 USD (190 EUR) outright, but Motorola mentioned the smartphone would also be available on contract. The rugged smartphone is dust-proof and water-resistant, but the phone also comes with Corning Gorilla Glass coating for extra protection. According to Motorola, the DEFY MINI “ is strong enough to keep up with you and your wildest adventures. And all for a price that won’t break the bank.” Motorola’s smallest device in the DEFY series has already been launched in most regions of the world, in some cases under different names. Software-wise, the DEFY MINI is powered by Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread platform and has been confirmed to stay on this version of the operating system. In addition, the smartphone runs Motorola’s MotoSwitch UI , which is said to be capable of learning user’s favorite songs and the most frequently contacts that the user calls. All the information obtained is then put on the phone’s home screen for quicker and easier access. On the inside, the DEFY MINI is equipped with a low-performance processor clocked at 600 MHz, 512MB of RAM, 512MB of ROM, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB). Furthermore, the handset sports a decent 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 320 x 480 pixels and 262k colors. There’s also a 3-megapixel main camera with LED flash and video recording. “Motorola DEFY MINI is just the right mix of style, value, performance and toughness. It can stand up to whatever your busy life throws at you, keep you connected and organised while allowing you to capture and share your once-in-a-lifetime adventures – all with resilience and style”, said Dorothy Matemba, Motorola sub-Saharan Africa head of marketing.

Motorola DEFY MINI Arrives in Ireland via Vodafone - MobilEgypt

Motorola and Vodafone have teamed up to bring the rugged DEFY MINI Android phone in Ireland. The smartphone is now available for purchase for only 130 EUR (160 USD) on PAYG (pay as you go). Customers who are willing to commit to a long-term contract at Vodafone Ireland can grab the Motorola DEFY MINI for free on BillPay. The dust- and water-resistant DEFY MINI also offers total protection against scratches and scrapes thanks to its Corning Gorilla Glass display coating. Affordability aside, Motorola DEFY MINI features a large capacity 1650 mAh Li-Ion battery, which is rated by the manufacturer for up to 21 days of standby time or up to 10 hours of talk time. The smartphone runs Google’s Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread operating system integrated with the company’s MotoSwitch user interface. Unfortunately, Motorola has recently confirmed the DEFY MINI won’t receive an Ice Cream Sandwich update in the future. This is understandable if we take into consideration the fact that the DEFY MINI is equipped with a low- performance 600 MHz single-core processor, which is complemented by 512MB of RAM. There’s also 512MB of ROM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB). Motorola DEFY MINI sports a 3.2-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen display (320 x 480 pixels), a 3-megapixel rear photo snapper, as well as a VGA front-facing camera for video calls. “Whether you are stood in a muddy field, watching the match in the rain or enjoying a night out with friends, our smartphones accompany us everywhere. Motorola DEFY MINI is ready for whatever life throws your way, providing the perfect mix of style, value, performance and toughness. It can stand up to whatever life throws at you, keeping you connected, organised and entertained wherever you go ,” said Andrew Morley, UK & Ireland general manager, Motorola Mobility UK Ltd.

Canadian owners of XOOM Wi-Fi rejoice as Motorola has just announced the long awaited Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update is now available for download. Ice Cream Sandwich for Motorola XOOM with Wi-Fi has been available for quite a while but only in the United States. Today, Motorola did the unthinkable and released the update in Canada as well. However, the US-based handset maker still has lots of devices to update in the following months, and the only one that received its promised upgrade is the XOOM Wi-Fi. According to Motorola, the major update is pushed OTA (over the air), in waves, so XOOM Wi-Fi owners should wait to be notified on the update. Obviously, it’s recommended to back up all personal data stored on the tablet prior to upgrading to Ice Cream Sandwich. Also, make sure the slate’s battery is at least 50% charged and the Wi-Fi connection is stable. Once the update process is completes successfully, users will notice the updated browser with faster rendering, zoom and pan. In addition, user will now be able to save pages for offline reading and request desktop versions of websites. The application drawer has been redesigned In All Apps launcher, so users can now simply drag an app to get information about it, or immediately uninstall it. It is also possible to disable a pre-installed app. There’s also a new system font for improved readability and a new typeface, dubbed Roboto, which is specially optimized for high resolution screens. The Gallery application has been completely redesigned too, and now features a photo editor, allowing users to crop and rotate pictures, set levels, remove red eyes, or add effects. Motorola has just announced the availability of the update, so we’re still waiting for users’ feedback. Hopefully, it will not be plagued by issues. More details on the benefits of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi can be found here.

The mid-range Motorola ATRIX 2 Android smartphone has finally reached Saudi Arabia. The device can now be purchased via selected leading mobile phone retailers across the country. No word on the price tag, though given the fact that no carrier picked the ATRIX 2, we can safely assume it won’t be subsidized. As expected, the ATRIX 2 will be delivered with Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform on board. No less than ten EA titles will be available for the ATRIX 2, including Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, Need for Speed Shift, Dead Space, EA SPORTS FIFA 10, THE GAME OF LIFE, MONOPOLY, The Sims 3, Tetris, Worms and Bejeweled 2. Aside from that, the ATRIX 2 can be considered a mid–range Android phone, even if it comes equipped with a dual-core processor clocked at 1 GHz. Keep in mind that the smartphone will be shipped with an 8GB free memory card in the sales package.
